THE CROSSOVER

$40.00

Iconic plays can make a meaningless game unforgettable. Jordan was used to creating those moments. That’s partly how he became Bubba Chuck’s hardwood hero. Young AI used to get as close as possible to the TV to watch his idol.

"My mom used to always tell me, 'Back up from the TV or you'll be blind and never be able to shoot no basketballs. You're not gonna be able to see the rim.”

Guess he listened. Cause some years later the Hampton, Virginia hooper turned Georgetown giant became the #1 overall pick. He went against his hero four times his first season on the way to becoming the Rookie of the Year.  March 12, 1997, was the third of those four between AI’s Sixers and Jordan’s Bulls that year. Nobody remembers — or really cares — who won that game. We remember the iconic play — the one that happened when the Answer ended up 1 on 1 with his idol.

“I always told my homeboys, if I ever play against the best in the game, no disrespect, but I was going to try my move.”

The killer crossover was the move that put the best on ice. It asked a Question no defender or sneaker designer in the world had an Answer for. The AJ12 Jordan wore was inspired by the Japanese Rising Sun flag. The Sixers and Bulls matchup featured a Rising Star versus the sun at high noon.

“Everybody knows who No. 23 is all over the world, but tonight, you're gonna know who No. 3 is."

“I remember I came off a screen or something. I heard Phil say his name, and I saw him.”

“I just backed up and gave him a little crossover. He went for it and I was like, 'Oh yeah, I got his [expletive] now.”

Bubba Chuck Hypnotized the GOAT, put him on skates, then knocked down the jumper for 2 of his 37 points. The moment was B.I.G. Everybody in the Wells Fargo Center asked, “Diddy?!” And the Answer was, “He did.”

“He got me. That [expletive] Iverson crossed me.”

In that single moment, Bubba Chuck made the crossover to hardwood hero. That’s the moment Jordan, the NBA, and fans got put on notice — the Question was a problem. At that moment we learned, you don’t get the Answer without the Question.
